Male Escort Photography – Part II

What images do you need for a male escort portfolio?

When it comes to pulling together your gallery, ultimately, it’s a matter of image choice and showing versatility.

We don’t have a fixed, hard limit on photos, but imagine, just for a moment, that we did. Eight shots is what we aim at here at the agency (loosely), because too many more and clients can get bored. Plus, why give everything up in images when they can book you and see as much as they want?

So, imagine you have eight shots, in total, to sell yourself. Eight shots to pitch at all the potential clients and types of clients that might want you for any type of event. What pictures are you going to choose?

To hit the major, most common client needs, you need to treat your portfolio like a wardrobe, where each shot represents a different client or “booking type”. So, instead of a random assortment of mirror selfies (see part III for more info), aim to incorporate these eight distinct male types:

  • High Society (The Black Tie / Sharp Blazer): There aren’t many women who don’t like a man who looks good in a suit. Bond is a symbol for a reason.
It says: “I am your sophisticated, flawless plus-one for a charity gala, a high-end wedding, or a corporate event where you need to turn heads.”
  • The Intellectual (The Coffee Shop / Textured Knitwear): A cosy, approachable look.
The message: “I am grounded, safe, a fantastic listener, and the perfect companion for an afternoon of deep, engaging conversation.”
  • Smart-Casual Date Night (Rolled Sleeves / Dark Denim): A stylish, modern look.
It says: “I’m the sharp, attentive guy you take to that trendy new restaurant to make your friends or your ex just a little bit jealous.
  • The Adventurer (Outdoors / Casual Jacket): Out on a scenic walk or in a beautiful park, perhaps even an urban stroll in the big city or by the river. Just make sure if you’re in the wilds, you still look good. No sweat dripping down your face after that climb!
The message: “I’m active, healthy, full of life, and great company for an outdoor excursion.
  • The Warm Close-Up (The Genuine Smile): A properly lit headshot where you are making direct eye contact with the lens and smiling with your eyes.
The message: “I am warm, kind, approachable, and completely present with you.
  • The Arts & Culture (The Gallery / Theatre Look):] Dressed sharp-casual, interacting with an interesting environment.
The message: “I’m cultured, interesting, and can hold my own in any social or creative setting.”
  • The Relaxed Sunday (High-End Loungewear / T-shirt): Filling out a t-shirt well, looking relaxed, charming, and approachable
The message: “I’m comfortable in my own skin, laid-back, and effortlessly handsome even when completely casual.”
  • The Curveball / Your Personal Style:] Throw in a look that highlights your unique, authentic edge. If you’re a rocker, rock it up. If you’re sports mad, wear your favourite jersey. Don’t be afraid to show action shots either if you play regularly and have good shots.
The message: “I am unique, confident, and unapologetically myself.”

Why limit yourself to one set of clients with your images when you can pitch to all of them? That’s not to say that every one of these is a must-have, but just like when writing your text, play to your strengths.

Context & Location: Selling the Fantasy

As I mentioned before, your shots are about location. It’s about the WHERE of your photos. Think about it: the woman in the evening dress in a hotel bar? Of course. Works great. At the opera house? Fabulous! In a cheap café in Birmingham or sitting in McDonald’s? You’re hitting more “edgy fashion shoot” vibes there rather than hitting a fantasy… and that’s what you’re selling here; the fantasy. Give your pictures context that sells what you’re offering.

One common mistake we see with guys is throwing on a suit at home and taking a quick mirror selfie when they have a spare five minutes. Wearing a suit in your room or at the end of a hallway runs the risk of looking like your mom took it before prom or your first date. Use it as an excuse to go out, get dressed up, and get some amazing shots in fun locations. Rope in a friend, or use the timer. Don’t just take a snap, make a picture. Part III covers this in more detail, and there are some great video resources for inspiration, too.

As a general rule, we recommend shots “on location” rather than in a studio. Clients aren’t going to see you in isolation with finely honed lights and a plain background. They’re going to see you in a coffee shop, a bar, a restaurant, a theatre, a cinema, or meeting in a town. If your shoot IS going to be studio-based, I recommend dressing the set to give a sense of place.

Highlights From Our Top Companions

Below you will find links to some of our top guys, and I encourage you to check out their galleries. Each of them incorporates some or all of the above in some way.

Don’t focus on the specifics, focus on the general ideas. They’re wearing what looks good for them in their own style. You need to do the same.

  • Luca: He’s got a good mix of smart, casual, and snapshot. A couple of beach shots, some of him dressed smart/casual, and some just looking plain smart. He’s looking stylish and smooth, sometimes smiling, sometimes a little more serious.
    • What’s he saying? Charming, cheeky, fun to be around.
  • Ronaldo: OK, it helps that he’s built like a Greek God in some of these shots, but look at what he’s showing in a wider context. Yes, he shows of his six-pack, but he shows a lot more with his style, and those ab shots are deliberate and styled, not just a quick gym selfie. Beyond that, you’ve got the playfulness of a snowball fight, dressed in a suit in a gallery looking very smart and stylish. Another similar shot with a smile sitting in a chair in what looks like a coffee shop; and, of course, showing off his style in Italy.
    • What’s he saying? Sharp, stylish, playful.
  • Leon: Another “classically” good looking guy, but if you look at his fourth and fifth shots you can see that he rocks the casual look very well, with two very well-taken, on-location pictures.
    • What’s he saying? Smart (in looks AND intellect), casual, easy-going.
  • Leo X: This is great example of “set” dressing. His last two shots could easily have been made in a studio, but with the correct use of furniture/props it’s looking like he’s perhaps in your house for a coffee. Then there’s the shot by the bridge to show his casual sense of style and of course a little more dressed up in the jacket and shirt for his first shot.
    • What’s he saying? Safe, comforting, a listener.

If you do choose to book a professional at some point, tell them you want “environmental portraits with a variety of looks and styles”, and to bring out your personality.

One thing I will say is don’t try to look like something or someone that you’re not. Don’t try to rock the “moody suave James Bond” look if that’s not you. You’ll look uncomfortable, and that will show in your pictures. You need to own the looks you’re showing off – that’s what makes you feel good, and in turn that will make you look good.

Final Note

If you’re just starting you male escorting career, it’s unlikely that you’re going to have all of these pictures immediately to hand. Don’t let this stop you. As long as you’ve got a few good photos to start with, that’s plenty. Most guys start with what they have and build on it over time.

Your profile is never “one and done”. It’s always shifting, always evolving, changing according to how you change, how your experiences shape you, and how the market shifts.

Up next…

No doubt you’ve been reading this and thinking one of three things:

  • I’ve got a few pictures like that
  • I have no pictures like that
  • A combination of the above

No matter where you are on that list, when you join The Male Escort Agency, we’ll give you an honest appraisal of where you need to upgrade, as well as provide helpful edits as necessary, especially if you want to protect your privacy.
